How to Read Hotel Reviews Without Overreacting
Reviews are useful when treated as evidence rather than a scoreboard. A single dramatic story matters less than a repeated pattern across recent stays.
Start with recency
Hotels renovate, change management, replace elevators and go through construction. Give more weight to recent reviews that describe the current condition.
Look for repeated operational themes
Repeated comments about noise, cleanliness, hot water, HVAC, breakfast crowding, shuttle reliability or slow elevators can reveal practical tradeoffs that marketing pages do not show.
Match traveler type
Families, business travelers, couples, pet owners and guests with mobility needs notice different things. Filter mentally for comments relevant to your trip.
Use photos carefully
Guest photos can reveal room wear and real views, but confirm the room category. Photos from a suite or renovated wing may not describe the room you are booking.
